⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Lance
Age: 18
Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Canon Point: Post Season 1

Background: http://voltron.wikia.com/wiki/Lance_(Legendary_Defender)

Personality:
Usually found with a cocky smile and a cheesy joke at hand, Lance is the type of guy who many people can quickly call a friend. He has a very easygoing attitude, almost to the point where it often doesn't seem that he's actually taking things seriously. Dumb jokes, immature behavior, and a whole lot of flirting with pretty ladies is part of his repertoire. It has a tendency to make him out to be team goofball, even though he usually knows when a situation requires him to be serious. Even then, though, he's the type to try and lighten the mood to keep the team spirits up. He is adventurous with a free spirit, more than ready to jump into any situation with excitement.

Lance has a very competitive nature. His one-sided rivalry with Keith is one of the things that seems to fuel him nearly as much as his job as defender of the universe. While he puts on an overconfident air, he's easily frustrated when Keith one ups him. Said frustration stemmed from their Garrison days, where Keith's skills put him at the top of the class and Lance was thus stuck as a cargo pilot until Keith was kicked out due to disciplinary issues. Even after Keith left, Lance never forgot him and his stupid mullet and considers Keith to be his rival in pretty much anything. Lance is friendly enough with the rest of the team, and does eventually warm up to Keith as an actual friend and teammate, but there's a lot of incessant bickering on Lance's part that doesn't always make sense. He has a tendency to go with his immediate feelings rather than rational thought, especially when it comes to something he feels so passionately about.

Although at first glance, Lance seems perpetually cheerful and overconfident, there's a more sensitive and thoughtful side to him that he doesn't share often with the others. He's not that great at hiding it all of the time, however, and often tries to overcompensate with the more brash side of his personality. He deeply misses Earth and can't stop thinking about his family, and is brought down by the fact that as a paladin, he can't simply go home. When the paladins are doing psychic training, he initially can't get the thoughts of his family out of his head, and he later confides to Coran about his doubts regarding being stuck in space for an unknown period of time. In addition, is outward overconfidence and constant bragging may very well be a front for the insecurities he can feel about himself. Being more of a jack-of-all-trades in the team, a lack of being able to have a real niche (except perhaps for marksmanship and surprisingly, some strategizing) makes it difficult to feel as if he's truly making a difference.

He may second guess himself sometimes, but Lance still has plenty of strengths. Above all, he's extremely loyal to his friends—to the people he now considers a second family. Lance is willing to put his life on the line to protect the others, and actually does so at one point when the castle is under attack. Throwing himself in front of an explosion to push Coran out of the way? He does it without a second thought. He may joke about often, but he takes his role as a paladin seriously. Being a defender of the universe is a heavy burden for someone who hasn't even hit his 20s yet, but he does the best he can. Marksmanship is the closest thing he can call a specialty, and he tends to be the long range fighter of the team with no shortage of good accuracy. When he truly tries, anyway. Surprisingly, even if he's the second most impulsive paladin, he has the makings of a decent tactician in battle. He's quick to think on his feet; for example, when he and Keith were infiltrating the Balmera, Lance very swiftly puts a stop to Keith just running in with sword swinging. Both then and in a later part of the infiltration, he's able to immediately come up with a better plan to maximize their chances of success while minimizing their chances of getting blasted to pieces. After all, one can't show off how awesome they are if they're a pile of space dust, can they?

Abilities: None to really speak of, naturally. Lance is an ordinary human thrust into an extraordinary situation. He's pretty good at marksmanship and isn't the worst pilot in the world despite what Keith says, but that's about it. Without his lion, his only real non-normal power comes from his bayard and some minor flying with his pilot suit. Overall, Lance is an all rounder; he isn't the fastest or the strongest or the brightest, but he can more than hold his own in a fight.

Alignment: Daimonia. Lance is a very emotional person by nature, but grief and joy are likely the most prominent for him. He's easily excitable and made happy at even small things, and is (at least on the surface) seen as the cheerful, happy-go-lucky guy of Team Voltron. However, even if he tries to hide it sometimes, negative emotions affect him just as easily. Thinking of home can send him into a depression and he's nearly started crying just with a single thought.

Other: As he's being dragged in from the middle of a battle, Lance will be fully suited up in his paladin armor when he arrives. It has an attached jetpack, but whatever energy that runs on will probably run out quickly. Other than that, he has his bayard as a weapon. It transforms into a blaster rifle, his main offense outside of his lion.
